CHAPTER NINE

A month had passed since detective Moon had questioned me. Thank heavens he had finally realised I had nothing to do with Alan’s death.

I was still in shock that somebody had killed him. The police were keeping me up to date. Anton had been a rock, and he had finally told me he had an idea who the woman in the pictures was. Gracie had also admitted to her thought on the subject.

It didn’t come as a great shock to find out that they had both thought it was Myla. Maybe it should of. Looking back at the photos, I could see what they both meant. Though you couldn’t see the woman’s face, there’s just something about the woman. The colour of her hair, the tone of her skin was identical to Myla’s.

It wasn’t until later that they told me that Ian had found a reflection of the woman. The resemblance was uncanny, so either Myla had a twin, or this mystery woman was her bloody double. Of course, it was neither.

I had no doubt in my mind the woman in the picture was Myla.

I was sad to say it was not a shock to find that Alan and my cousin were having an affair. Looking back, I could see all the signs I had missed. It couldn’t be the only reason she hated me. I guess she wanted Alan to leave me, and he refused. Finding out I was now with another man she wanted seemed to send her over the edge. He was someone she wanted, and she believed I had lured him away from her. Of course, she was wrong. I knew no matter how I or Anton tried to tell her differently, she would never believe either of us.

I was now standing in a room with Anton, Ian, and Gracie.

Out of the blue, Ian asked, “do you think Myla is capable of killing someone?”

My eyes clashed with Gracie’s. With eyebrows raised, do we? I asked her silently.

I watch as Gracie turned her head towards Ian and replied. “Put it this way. It wouldn’t shock me if she had.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Myla was capable of many things, but murdering someone? Surely not ... they both must be wrong.

“Gracie, come on...” I protested, no matter our dislike of each other. I didn’t want to believe she would be capable of doing something like that.

She shook her head. “Come on what, Harper? You know what she’s done in the past. So why does it surprise you she would go to the lengths of killing somebody?”

“Why would she kill Alan?” The words were like a jagged whisper on my tongue.

Interrupting their conversation. Anton replied, “Because Alan stayed with you and for whatever reason, she couldn’t accept his rejection.”

My heart skipped a beat at hearing those words. In a strained voice I replied, “So she killed him.” In my heart I already knew the answer. I just hadn’t wanted to admit to it.

“Yes,” Gracie replied, in a voice that was quite intense.
